>> Building your personal brand is an important key to success. For instance, Michael Kors is more than just a name. Michael Kors build a brand around that name of his. And then an empire. [ Music ] >> What do you bring to the table? And how do you want people to view you? These are two important questions that must be answered. Either you take the lead and control to perception, or the outside world will draw its own conclusions. >> You want to be able to captivate folks in all walks of life, and leave a memorable impression on them. It's really important to know your value proposition and be able to effectively, you know, dictate that to someone else. >> Are you a sports marketing guru or an interior design visionary? Or something else? Whatever it is, create your own tagline, and use it on all social media platforms. >> I'm a career counselor, so let's see. Passionate and connected advisor, helping to catapult careers on a daily basis. Yeah, that sounds good. >> Of course your personal tagline should be a true representation of yourself. Don't falsify it for attention's sake. Because if all goes according to plan, you'll be asked to deliver on the promise of that brand. Now that you have an idea of what you bring to the table, it's time to let everyone else know. In today's environment, social media is a great way to gain traction. Set up online profiles with a professional picture and strong bio. Add links to websites and/or blogs, where you can be found. Provide examples of accomplishments. Join in on community activities and forums. Finally, use relevant hashtags strategically. You should always aim to be helpful. If you can solve a problem or provide valuable insight, people will remember you. But try not to flood the market with irrelevant or excessive posts. This may hurt your credibility. >> Definitely with social media especially be careful what you're posting. I look every single candidate up before I interview them and I've never seen anything on social media that has made me want to hire somebody. I've only ever seen things that are kind of negative. >> What good is promoting your brand if it's to the wrong market? Here are some things to consider when approaching your target audience. Who are they? Age, gender, interests, and concerns. What would motivate and help them? Where do they hang out, and what activities do they partake in? You may even have more than one audience, but thoughtful and thorough identification is key. >> From the brand standpoint, it's very important that your brand that is out there reflects what you want it to reflect. Examples of community posts related to any product you're involved in, or any hobbies you're involved in, you can usually get an idea of how helpful you as a person are to other people and to how that might relate back to the team you're working with. >> Your promotions will draw the audience in, but it's your knowledge and experience that will keep them coming back.
